INFORMATION ON TREK FOR 4/23/05-4/24/05

Since we're not attending the BEAT this year, we are planning our own club tour for the same dates, April 23 and 24. We'll be going to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest, an area the Club has never before toured. The spring weather should be perfect and with all the rain we've had the desert should be in maximum splendor. I'll ask the planners to plan several stops for photo opportunities.

It will be an overnight trip and the planners are working on the best location to sleep on Saturday night. All the details are below, at the bottom of this page. Right now I need the RSVP of anyone who wants to join in. I'm assuming that everyone who was on the BEAT list will attend except for Corrigan and Lord, who I have already heard from. Since time is short, please send your RSVP promptly so I can forward the numbers to the planners.

Here's the net BEAT list

  1. Ebeyer
  2. Dunn
  3. Peluso
  4. Taylor
  5. Blezenski
  6. Beveridge
  7. Swan
  8. Hunt
  9. Comstock

Thanks

Paul

Here's a rundown of what we have planned for April 23rd and 24th.  Thanks (as usual) to John Blezenski for his normal excellent work organizing this.

We'll leave early Saturday morning from Fountain Hills and head to Holbrook via Payson and Heber. We'll lunch in Holbrook at Joe & Aggie's Cafe, one of the old Route 66 landmarks. Following lunch we'll get gas. Then we'll head off for a couple of hours exploring the Forest and Painted Desert. When we re-group, we'll head west to Williams, AZ where we'll spend the night at the Quality Inn Mountain Ranch. Depending on available time we may leave I-40 for more rural roads, including a stretch of original Route 66.There will be a group dinner in Williams.

On Sunday the tour will return to the Phoenix area via Hwy 89 through Chino Valley and Prescott. Our lunch stop is to be determined.

Rooms are being held at the Quality Inn Mountain Ranch only for a few days so it is vital that you call them immediately and book your room. Here are the particulars:
