October Event - Drive to Shugrue's in Sedona 10/13/07
As promised, we have the details worked out for the club tour on Saturday, October 13th. The tour will start at the Albertson's market on Carefree Hwy 1/4 mile east of Interstate 17. We'll meet there at 8:30 AM and depart at 8:45 AM.
We'll drive west to Wickenburg for a 15 minute comfort stop at McDonalds. When we leave Wickenburg, we'll head out on Hwy 89 but at the junction, about 5 miles out of town, we'll pick up Hwy 93 to Kingman & Las Vegas. You will bear to the LEFT at this junction, DO NOT BEAR RIGHT AND TAKE HWY 89 TO YARNELL & PRESCOTT.
Approximately 30 miles up the highway (I think) on 93, you will turn right on to Hwy 97, the road sign will say, "Bagdad." This is an easy turn to miss, so pay attention if you happen to be in the front of the pack or traveling apart from the main caravan. Shortly after turning on to 97, about 4 miles in, we will pick up Hwy 96 which will bear slightly right. The towns associated with hwy 96 will be: Hillside, Kirkland, Skull Valley & Iron Springs. As long as you see those signs, you're on the right road. Eventually, you will find yourself on Skull Valley Kirkland Road which changes name to Iron Springs Road as it nears Prescott.
This will drop us into the outskirts of Prescott on Iron Springs Road. Follow that to Willow Creek Road and turn left (north) This will take us through the north end of the city and we'll pass by Willow Lake Park on our right side. Continue on Willow Creek Road until you get to Pioneer Parkway and turn right onto Pioneer Parkway. This will turn into 89A and take us up Mingus Mountain to Jerome. WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE JUNCTION OF PIONEER PARKWAY AND HWY 89, DO NOT TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW 89, IT WILL TAKE YOU NORTH TO ASHFORK. Be sure you stay on 89A to Jerome, through the town, and we'll drop down the other side of the mountain into Clarkdale. Turn right at the bottom of the hill where the gas station is and remain on 89A headed into Cottonwood. Eventually, you will arrive at the intersection of Hwy 260 and & 89A and you want to remain on 89 A to Sedona. Here's a link to the restaurant http://www.shugrues.com/ We will continue on Hwy 89 A into Sedona where it meets with Hwy 179. Turn right on 179 and then right again as 179 turns south away from town. Shugrue's is about 1/2 mile south on 179 on your left. There should be signs visible, Shugrue's Hillside Grill 928 282 5300.

During lunch, we can discuss the return trip. The short, quick and boring way is to continue south on 179 to Hwy 17 and back to the Valley. The longer, extended and scenic route is to drive north toward Flagstaff on the interstate until we pick up Lake Mary Road where we will turn right and head toward Mormon Lake. The balance of the trip should be familiar to most of the members as we have taken this route so many times in the past. The final leg of the tour will take us down to Payson and Hwy 87 back to Phoenix.
We'll have various comfort and fuel stops along the way which will be called out on the club radio. Please bring your club radio and name tag.
