Mormon Lake Lunch Drive - Saturday, June 25, 2011

We have selected the Mormon Lake Lodge for a lunch drive on Saturday June 25th. Normally, we would meet in Fountain Hills and take Hwy 87 and 87A, north to the destination, however, since our last two tours took us on that same route either to or through Payson, we have decided to do it differently this time just to give us different scenery and different roads to drive on. I have attached a copy of their lunch menu in "Word" format.

We will meet at the Albertson's center on Carefree Hwy ¼ mile east of Hwy 17 at 9 :00 AM. For those new to the club, we meet at the far east end of the Albertson's shopping center in front of the bank. Take Hwy 17 north to Camp Verde where we will pick up General Cook Trail which bypasses most of the city and connects with hwy 260. We'll continue on Hwy 260 east to Hwy 87 just north of Strawberry, AZ and we will continue north on 87 to Clint's Wells. From there we pick up Hwy 87A to Happy Jack and Mormon Lake. We are scheduled for lunch at approximately noon.

Please arrive at the start with a full fuel tank and your club radio and name tags. Comfort and fuel stops will be called out on the radio as needed. The first planned comfort stop will be in Camp Verde at the Shell station on General Cook Trail and West Salt Mine Road, they also have a convenience store. We won't need fuel but we should purchase something in order to make use of the bathrooms. FYI there is fuel available at Mormon Lake if you need it.

The routing for this tour will take us out of the hot weather into tall timber country. There are several options for a return to the Valley that vary greatly in length and time, each couple can select from the following: We can discuss this after lunch when we meet in the parking lot.

As always, I need your RSVP and while we're at it, please send your RSVP for the July 4th dinner event if you have not already done so.

I am quite distressed over the terrible forest fires as I am sure the members are also. These area's are within some of our favorite touring routes and we'll be in the thick of the remains during our planned Silver City tour in September. How devastating for the local residents, I can't imagine what they are going through.
