I
just phoned the Christmas Tree Restaurant and made our group reservations. In
the process, I spoke to the new owner, Debbie, and we had a very nice
conversation about the history, both good and bad, of the restaurant. She has
reverted back to the original menu offered by the first owner, Carol and even
hired back the same chefs to prepare the food. I also learned they have new
summer hours, opening now at 4PM rather than 5PM. Since it is important
for us to depart the restaurant as early as possible in order to make our return
to the Valley at a more reasonable hour.
We will meet at Fountain Hills at 12:45
PM and depart at 1:00PM.
We meet at the Target shopping center at Shea and Saguaro Blvd’s at
the west end by Starbucks. You can get a refreshing beverage and there
is a restroom available. Please be on time so we don’t have members
standing around in the heat waiting for late comers. Always arrive with
a full fuel tank and bring your FRS radio that we use to communicate on
our tours. You may want a light wrap for the return trip as it is a bit
cooler at the higher elevations.
When we depart Starbucks we will head east on Shea to Hwy 87 and head
north to Payson where we will stop near the Casino for a comfort break
for about 15 minutes. When we depart the Casino area we will drive a
short way north, about 1 mile and turn right on Hwy 260 through the
towns of Heber, Show Low and finally into Pinetop. Please watch your
speed in the town of Star Valley, they have radar cameras at both ends
of town. Here is a link to the restaurant with the street address, phone
number and menu and just about everything else you would want to know. http://www.christmastreerestaurant.com/
New members, just follow the Z car in front of you, you can’t get lost

As
I recall, the entire tour, one way is about 3 hours and we should arrive
sometime around 4 PM when they open. I expect we will be back on the
road for the return trip no later than 6 PM and an estimated return to
the Valley around 9PM. If we arrive in Pinetop earlier than expected, we
will fuel up before dinner but otherwise we will fill up afterward.
Let’s do our best to stay connected after the dinner so we coordinate
our refueling and structure it so we drive together in a caravan on the
return drive, it’s much more fun and safer.
