Trip to Temecula - October 13-16, 2014
Here are all the details I have at this time. It is shaping up to be a great trip. We will have a total of 8 cars. Six cars will be departing from the Love's Truck Stop. Dan and Kathy Farkas will be meeting us in Temecula as they are going over early. And Joanna Kuhl-Langhoff will be driving up to meet us since she lives in the San Diego area.
Monday, Oct 13. Meet at 8AM at Love's Truck Stop at Exit 162 Wild Horse Pass off I-10. This is on the east side of the highway. There is a McDonalds across the street from Love's if anyone wants to pick up an Egg McMuffin while we wait for everyone to arrive. Directions to Temecula are as follows:
We will all be on our own Monday night for dinner. Old Town Temecula has12 blocks of boutique shops and restaurants. Some of the restaurants I contacted were closed on Monday, so we can walk around and pick one that is open.
Tuesday October 14 Some will be heading to San Diego, some will be touring wineries. Keith will be our designated driver and pick up the van Tuesday morning. I don't think we want to drink wine too early in the day, but if we leave the hotel around 10:30/11:00AM we should be able to get in one stop before we stop at the South Coast Winery for lunch. Dinner will be at Gourmet Italia. Reservations are for 6PM.
I made reservations for the entire group. If the San Diego team is running late, give me a call and I will change the head count with the restaurant. For this size group, both Tuesday and Wednesday dinners had to be made by 6PM. Neither restaurant will seat a large group between 6-8PM
Wednesday, Oct 15 This day will be our tour to San Juan Capistrano, on to Fisherman's Restaurant in San Clemente, down to Oceanside and turn inland back to Temecula. Depending on interest on touring the Mission in San Juan Capistrano, we will stop and take a break right down the street from the mission at Ruby's Diner. Ruby's has some great beignet's and you sit on the top patio and look down the street at the Mission. Most of the swallows seem to have left the Mission in the past years. They are trying to entice them back. The tour is interesting if you have never been here.
Lunch will be in San Clemente at the Fisherman's Restaurant Parking may be tough in this area. Park where you can.
Dinner will be at The Gambling Cowboy. Reservations are for 5:45PM
Directions for the trip around on Wednesday.
Thursday October 16. We head home. We will be going over the mountain and come back onto I-10 around Palm Springs/Indio. This is a great trip over the mountain, you will all love the road.
Here's the link for the return trip.
I will be working on picking out some great wineries. Some I am checking out include Wilson Creek-both their almond "Oh My Gosh" champagne and Angelica Cream Sherry are served in a shot glass made of chocolate. That just sounds good. Thornton Winery has a chocolate tasting flight-for port and sherry--think chocolate milkshakes. South Coast is well known for their great wines. I'm also trying to find one that will have a tour included.
If anyone has any questions, please ask.
Many thanks to Virgil without who I would never have been able to figure out the maps. He did it all for me.
