To Oracle for Lunch
10/20/18
We are
forced to change the Saturday October 20th club tour.
The Prescott weather is forecast to be cold and rain. In addition, 3
weeks ago when I made reservations at the Palace restaurant in Prescott,
the weather was beautiful and they planned to seat us on their outdoor
patio. Also, at that time, based upon prior club experience, I estimated
about 25 souls and now the attendance list is 48 souls which they cannot
handle.
Between the bad weather and the increase in
our group numbers, I am changing the tour to the Oracle Inn & Steakhouse
in Oracle just 35 miles north of Tucson. Under these circumstances, I
will need to start over with the RSVP from all of you and time is
running short for me to get an accurate head count before Saturday. So
PLEASE send me your RSVP for the Oracle drive in a very timely
manner. I need a good head count for the steakhouse. So far,
all I have given them is an estimate. FYI, the forecast for Oracle is 70
degrees and only a 10% chance of rain, ditto for Globe which we will be
passing through.
Here are the
details of the tour guide:
We値l be touring on Saturday, October
20th, 2018
Our destination will be Oracle, AZ and the
Oracle Inn & Steakhouse for lunch where we have a private banquet room
reserved.
Our starting
point will be exit 197, Tomahawk Road off the HWY 60. We will meet at
the gas station on the N.E. corner.
When you come down the ramp off hwy 60
turn left and the station and convenience store will be on the right.
We値l assemble there at 9:30 AM and depart at 9:45 AM. We値l take
highway 60 all the way to Globe and we will stop at the Chevron gas
station and convenience store in Globe at the far east end of town for
15 or 20 minutes for a comfort break and fuel if you need it. This first
leg from Tomahawk Road to Globe is approximately 70 miles.
We値l head east
out of Globe on Highway 60 and in just a short distance turn right on
Highway 77 south. It will be approximately 70 miles to the next turn
which is American Way in Oracle. Turn left on American Way and
follow it west to the Oracle Inn & Steakhouse, you can稚 miss it,
parking lot right in front.
Following our
stay in Oracle we will backtrack our route on highway 77 approximately
40 miles to the town of Winkleman, where we will pick up highway 177
north through the towns of Hayden, Kearny, Riverside, Kelvin and finally
into Superior. Comfort or fuel stops will be decided along the way and
called out on the radio. From Superior, we will head west on highway 60
for a return to Phoenix.
The scenery on
highway 77 is picture post card stuff and should be beautiful with a
change of fall colors to the vegetation. This is truly a beautiful drive
and I am sure the meal at the Oracle Inn & Steakhouse will also be
excellent, we have eaten there many, many, times previously.
Please have a
full fuel tank at the start of the tour and remember to bring along your
communications radio and a copy of this tour guide. It痴 always a good
idea to have an Arizona state map handy and you may want a jacket, it
will be cold/cool in the higher elevations. I値l have a couple loaner
radios for anyone who needs one.
Thank you and I
look forward to some prompt RSVP痴 so I can get this all sorted out.
