Our June 1, 2024 tour has been changed. The destination will be the
Mormon Lake Lodge, restaurant
& hotel at Mormon lake for lunch ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We will meet in Fountain Hills at the Target shopping center, please
meet in front of the Target store. There are
restrooms and a Starbucks in the lobby if you want coffee. The
Target center is located at Shea Blvd and Saguaro Blvd in Ftn Hills.
We will meet at 9:45 AM and depart at 10:00 AM
We’ll head north on Hwy 87 to Payson where we will take a 15-minute
comfort break at the gas station near
the casino. It is 67 miles from Ftn Hills to
Payson. Departing the gas station, we will continue north on
highway 87 up the rim to Pine, Strawberry & Clint’s Wells.
Road distance from Payson to Clints Wells is 38 miles. There is a
portable potty at Clints Wells and we can all stop if anyone needs to
and we probably will
☹
Departing Clint's Wells
north, in 1/4 mile
make a left turn to pick up Hwy
87A toward Flagstaff.
DO NOT BEAR RIGHT AND TAKE HWY 87 TO WINSLOW. We
will continue on hwy 87A
passing Happy Jack and arriving at
Mormon Lake. Road distance from Clints Wells to Mormon Lake is 28 miles.
There is a directional sign on the shoulder of the road that will point
to Mormon Lake. It is not well marked if you’re driving fast you may
miss it. Nearing the 28 mile mark look for the Mormon Lake sign and
you’ll turn left and follow the road to the Lake about 1 mile. If you
have GPS simply program Mormon Lake AZ. The exact address is: 1991 South
Mormon Lake Road Mormon Lake, AZ 86038. FYI the lake is now a dry lake
bed so don’t look for water.
Please have a full fuel tank at the
start and remember to bring your
club radio, your
club’s name badge and this guide.
Since the tour destination has been
changed, it may change your attendance decision from the Oracle drive. I
have created a new attendance list with a “yes” for those who would have
attended the Oracle tour. We do have a small group who will not attend
the Mormon Lake tour because they will be out of town or traveling. In
any case, please send me you RSVP
for the Mormon Lake tour. If you’re already on the list and will attend,
there is no need to RSVP. Some of you that were a “no” for Oracle may
say “yes” to the Mormon Lake tour; just let me know please.
Thanks,
Paul
