07/28/2012 - Mormon Lake Lodge
As we previously announced, we will be driving to Mormon Lake Lodge and Restaurant on Saturday July 28th for an afternoon/dinner drive. We will assemble at 2:15 PM in Fountain Hills at the Target shopping center on Shea Blvd & Saguaro Blvd, Please assemble at the West end near the Starbucks. Refreshments and a restroom are available. We'll depart at 2:30 sharp as to not hang around in the afternoon heat in the parking lot. Please start with a full fuel tank and remember to bring your club radio with you.
We will drive East on Shea Blvd to hwy 87 and turn North and the first stop will be the gas station in Payson for a comfort break. We will continue north on Hwy 87 to Pine, Strawberry and Clint's Wells. Just past Clint's wells we will turn left off Hwy 87 to Hwy 87A toward Flagstaff. Be sure you do not continue straight ahead on Hwy 87 as it will take you to Winslow. When we reach Mormon Lake Road we turn left and go to the restaurant. This road is very easy to miss, at one time there was a wooden sign on the right side of Hwy 87A pointing left to the lodge but I don't think it is there anymore but I believe there is a green road sign that says, "Mormon Lake Lodge Road." If you are traveling with the group it will not be a problem for you but if you are separated for some reason you will have to pay very close attention and look for the turnoff to the left.
The phone number for the Lodge is 928 354 2227 or 928 774 0462
If all goes well we should arrive around 5:30 PM.
Please send me your RSVP ASAP because I will need an accurate head count for the restaurant. If I have any errors or ommisions in the attendance list, please send me a correction. We are hoping for a large turnout. The drive from Payson to the lodge is one of the prettiest in the state and great sports car roads to boot. The evening drive home with the tops down is always spectacular and gives us a break from the hot summer Valley temperatures. Hope to see many of you attend, and guests also.
Thanks for your support of the club
