Oracle Tour - Saturday, 2/4/17
According to my records we did this tour last February. It's difficult to come up with winter drives as we avoid the north country due to inclement weather. The tour to Oracle is always a great one with plenty of exciting roads to drive and great scenery. The choices this time around were either the Ajo/Gila Bend tour or the Oracle tour . Oracle won out :-)
We’ll be touring on Saturday, February 4th, 2017
Our destination will be Oracle, AZ and the Oracle Inn & Steakhouse for lunch where we have a private banquet room reserved. Their phone number in the event you need it (520) 896-3333.
Info on Oracle.
Starting point will be exit 197, Tomahawk Road., off the HWY 60. We will meet at the gas station on the N.E. corner.
When you come down the ramp, turn left under the highway and the station and convenience store will be on the right. We’ll assemble there at 9:30 AM and depart at 9:45 AM. We’ll take highway 60 all the way to Globe and we will stop at the Chevron gas station and convenience store in Globe at the far east end of town for 15 or 20 minutes for a comfort break and fuel if you need it. This first leg from the Tomahawk Road to Globe is approximately 70 miles.
We’ll head east out of Globe on Highway 60 and in just a short distance turn right on Highway 77 south. It will be approximately 70 miles to the next turn which is American Way in Oracle. Turn left on American Way and follow it west to the Oracle Inn & Steakhouse will be on your right.
Following our stay in Oracle we will backtrack our route north on highway 77 approximately 40 miles to the town of Winkleman, where we will pick up highway 177 north through the towns of Hayden, Kearny, Riverside, Kelvin and finally into Superior. Comfort or fuel stops will be decided along the way and called out on the radio. From Superior, we will head west on highway 60 for a return to Phoenix.
The scenery on highway 77 is picture post card stuff and should be beautiful. This is truly a beautiful drive and I am sure the meal at the Oracle Inn & Steakhouse will also be excellent. We have eaten there previously.
Please have a full fuel tank at the start of the tour and remember to bring along your FRS radio and always have an Arizona state map handy and you may want a light jacket.
As always, I will need your RSVP for the restaurant head count, please be prompt with this.
Thanks.
