March 13, 2021 - Oracle
Sadly, this trip has been
cancelled. Cold weather will not allow us to dine outside and due to
covid, the restaurant cannot accommodate us indoors. We will try to
reschedule for Apri.
OUR UPCOMING TOUR WILL BE ON SATURDAY, MARCH 13TH
Our destination will be the Orehouse
Hilltop Tavern in Oracle, AZ. They have expanded the size of the patio
and we will be eating outside. Oracle is 4500 ft. so the weather should
be OK.
We値l meet on Goldfield Rd exit 198 off Hwy
60. At the bottom of the ramp, you will see the Chevron station on the
east side of Goldfield Rd about 100 yds south, our meeting place. We値l
assemble there at 9:30 AM and depart at 9:45 AM. We値l take highway 60
to Globe where we will stop at the Chevron gas station and convenience
store in Globe at the far east end of town for 15 or 20 minutes for a
comfort break and fuel if you need it. This first leg from Goldfield
Road to Globe is approximately 70 miles. We値l be passing through the
towns of Superior, Miami and a few others before we get to Globe.
After the comfort
break, we値l head east out of Globe on Highway 60 and in about 1 mile
turn right on Highway 77 south, there's a sign there and I believe a
traffic light as well. It will be approximately 70 miles to the next
turn which is American Way in Oracle. Turn left on American Way
and follow it west to the
tavern
(roam through and see pictures) The actual address is
1200 N Jefferson Dr, Oracle, AZ 85623
You might want to add this to your GPS.
Following our stay in Oracle we will backtrack
our route on highway 77 approximately 40 miles to the town of Winkleman,
corner of hwy 177. There is a gas station at that intersection if you
need it or a comfort break, the rest of us will wait for you. We will
pick up highway 177 north through the towns of Hayden, Kearny,
Riverside, Kelvin and finally into Superior. Comfort or fuel stops will
be decided along the way and called out on the radio. From Superior, we
will head west on highway 60 for a return to Phoenix. Finding a restroom
in Superior can be challenging so be prepared to plan ahead.
The scenery on highway 77 & 177 is picture post
card stuff and fun roads to drive in our Z痴. This is truly a beautiful
drive and I知 sure you will enjoy it.
Please have a full fuel tank and name tag at the
start of the tour and remember to bring along your communications radio
and a copy of this tour guide. It痴 always a good idea to have an
Arizona state map handy.
Thank you and I look forward to some
prompt RSVP痴 so I can get this all
sorted out.
